It started with a house party.

Before there was Ed, we were a small group of friends with a bunch of rad acquaintances around the city. We’d see them at events, but most of them didn’t know each other. In our minds, there was so much potential in the yet-to-be made connections, so we decided to throw a party. It was a real mixer. Magic ensued, and Hi/Ed was born.

At first it was about parties. But it turned out to be about more than just fun. Our spaces were expanding minds, giving a sense of belonging, and deepening connections. Once we realized that, we stepped into the role of creating more intentionally. Our gatherings are designed with care: spaces where people feel safe, seen, and able to fully drop in. We also put a huge emphasis on quality sound, music, and lighting, and (if we do say so ourselves) have refined the art of the party arc.

We care about our culture. The magic of Hi/Ed comes from two things: the people who show up, and the attention we put into the details. Together, they create the vibes people talk about long after. While we don’t take ourselves too seriously, we do hold what we’re building with care. Accountability here doesn’t mean rules or authority. It means nurturing a culture of honesty and kindness, understanding that feedback is not criticism, and upholding our values together.

The future is bright. Hi/Ed is a registered non-profit with big dreams rooted in reality: creating more ways for people to gather, connect, and enrich Vancouver’s cultural fabric.

So who’s Ed? He’s not a person. He’s a vibe. The mash-up of our ideals, our running jokes, the ongoing bits, and our vision for the community we want to live in. Ed represents the playfulness and the purpose that guide us, and the culture we’re building together.

We’re making ripples. If it resonates, this is the place for you.
